Ju Ki Do

The Gentle Powerful Way

Ju Ki Do, founded in 1988 by Ivan Ujueta, is a martial art and way of life rooted in discipline, restoration, and purpose. When translated into English, Ju Ki Do means:

The Gentle Powerful Way

This name reflects the balance at the heart of the system—strength guided by control, power directed by purpose, and discipline shaped by moral and spiritual alignment.

A Philosophy of Restoration

At the core of Ju Ki Do is a defining principle:

To disable a man from doing wrong and enable him to do right.

Unlike systems that emphasize domination or destruction, Ju Ki Do is built on the belief that true strength lies in restoration. It teaches practitioners to correct behavior, establish discipline, and develop the ability to respond appropriately in any situation—physically, mentally, and spiritually.

This philosophy reflects a higher standard:

  • Correction over punishment

  • Discipline over chaos

  • Responsibility over reaction

  • Restoration over destruction

  • Forgiveness over condemnation

A System Forged Through Experience

Ju Ki Do was not created as a single idea, but developed through a life shaped by challenge, discipline, and purpose. Through physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth, Ivan Ujueta was led to study more than 14 traditional martial art systems.

From these disciplines, he extracted the most effective principles of self-defense, movement, and combat, refining them into a unified system.

The result is Ju Ki Do—a comprehensive system that emphasizes:

  • Practical self-defense

  • Physical conditioning

  • Mental discipline

  • Character development

Through this lifelong process, Ivan Ujueta became the founder of Professional Karate Institute Mixed Martial Arts (PKIMMA) and the Kyoshi (Master Teacher) of Ju Ki Do.

Ju Ki Do stands today not as a collection of techniques, but as a complete system of training and development.

Major Principles

Ju Ki Do operates on three levels:

  • Physical – Developing the ability to defend, control, and respond effectively

  • Moral – Understanding responsibility, discipline, and accountability

  • Spiritual – Aligning actions with purpose and truth

This structure ensures that training extends beyond the mat and into everyday life.

The Dove

The Ju Ki Do system is represented by the image of a dove.

While many martial arts systems use symbols of aggression, Ju Ki Do is identified by a symbol of peace. The dove represents the presence of the Holy Spirit and reflects the mission of restoration that defines the system.

It serves as a constant reminder that:

Power is not given to destroy—but to restore, correct, and protect.

A Living System

Since its founding in 1988, Ju Ki Do has continued to develop through the growth of its students and the application of its principles in real life.

Today, it serves as:

  • A martial art system

  • A leadership development framework

  • A philosophy of life

Ju Ki Do is taught through Professional Karate Institute Mixed Martial Arts (PKIMMA) and supported by the spiritual and philosophical foundation of Family Vision Center Church.

The Mission Continues

Ju Ki Do remains committed to developing individuals who are:

  • Disciplined in their actions

  • Accountable in their decisions

  • Respectful in their relationships

  • Capable in their defense

  • Grounded in purpose

It is not simply about learning how to fight.

It is about learning how to live.
